Sewer Backups

If you are experiencing a sewer backup at your home or business please contact the Waterville Sewerage District (WSD) at (207) 873-5191 prior to contacting a private contractor.

WSD has personnel on call 24 hours a day 7 days a week who will respond to your call. They will inspect WSD’s system to determine where the problem is.  If WSD’s sewer main is blocked causing the backup then the District will fix the problem.  If they determine that the problem is located in a private service then they will advise the property owner that they need to contact a private contractor.

If a property owner contacts a private contractor first and the problem is determined to be in WSD’s system then WSD will fix the problem, but will not reimburse property owners for bills they receive from private contractors for their time investigating the problem.
